New wastewater treatment plant 90 percent designed
 | The new wastewater treatment plant whose funding and planning has been underway for two years has reached 90 percent completion of the design phase, according to Bob Schmidt, Cashmere's director of Operations. Within a few months, the City will likely be putting the project out for bids to build, and after roughly two years of brick-laying is set to be in full operation sometime in 2014.
"We're about three to four months [from completion of plans]," said Mark Botello, Director of Building and Planning. Then the plan is to go out and to bid and start constructing the plant late summer/early fall."

| | Cashmere earns football sportsmanship award | The 34 referees of the Chelan County Football Officials Association recently voted Cashmere for the second year in a row the recipient of their annual Sportsmanship Award for the 2011 football season. An overall judgement on the attitude of teams, coaches, students, and crowd, the award is part of a general attempt by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and the Washington Officials Association to promote dignified play in Chelan and Douglas Counties. Seventeen schools from those quarters were eligible.
"It's just our way to recognize schools that do exemplify what we think are the highest in sportsmanship," said Jerry Anderson, the Association's assistant assigning secretary, and a 34-year ref himself.

The short clip, aired on mostly noon-day shows, and presumably seen by millions, showed Ginsburg making breakfasts, salads, hors-d'oeuvres, and dessert with the stuff.
"The whole idea is using the convenience of a pre-sliced apple in your cooking," said Tony Freytag, Crunch Pak's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "Today we ship over 2 million packages every week out of our Cashmere facility of sliced apples, so obviously some of them are being used as snacks, but a lot of them are being used more and more and ingredients."

The proposal was laid out during the District's board meeting last week by Jon Gores, Senior Vice President of D.A. Davidson & Co, the financial consulting firm through which they issued the bonds in 2005 and 2006.
The District originally sold those two rounds of bonds (which totaled $16.3 million) in order to finance the construction of Cashmere Middle School, as well as numerous improvements to the high school.

Here in the Upper Valley, the PUD operates two small water systems in Dryden and Ollala Canyon in Cashmere and sewer systems at Lake Wenatchee, Peshastin and Dryden.
"The revenues don't cover expenses for water and wastewater systems," said Ron Slabaugh, PUD Water and Wastewater Systems manager. "It has been that way for a long time."

| | Bulldogs chasing CTL championship | Two home wins and one road victory last week put Cashmere boys at a 4-1 league record, 11-2 overall. To a packed home gym Jan. 10, Bulldog boys hashed out a tough game against Chelan, 59-44. Omak and Tonasket were only slightly easier to top, the first ending at 71-51 though an away game, and the second finishing 50-39 at home.
Coach Keith Boyd attributed much of Tuesday's win to Chelan's shooting, which slipped especially during the second half, while Cascade's improved.
