Suspicions loom over River Run Apartments
 | By the time Riccardo Mora sent his Jan. 2 email to the Chelan County Sheriff, King5 TV, the mayor of Cashmere, the Cashmere Valley Record, and the Wenatchee World expressing grievances at River Run Apartments, his unease was to the point of venting. Late-night noises, wierd smells, prowling, abuse of elders, drug use, and even prostitution were on his list of irks and suspicions, though this paper has been able to verify none of this with hard evidence. His past attempts to redress those things included, according to the email, letters to the Chelan County Housing Authority, which owns the property, and calls to the Sheriff, Adult Protective Services, the Chelan County Health Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration--to no (or little) avail.

| | City Council approves measure to support "Lacy plan" | East Wenatchee mayor Steve Lacy said, "It was a really bad decision." He was referring to the decision of his city and the other local communities who agreed to support the building of the Town Toyota Center.
The really bad decision was a dream of the city of Wenatchee to build a regional events center by using state sales tax money that was designated for that purpose, but which was not being used by the region. Consequently, the tax receipts were going to the state. The city of Wenatchee called on the local communities to join them to form a Public Facilities District in order to bring that money back into the community and use it to build what has become known as the Town Toyota Center.

The Seattle based, Plumb, Level and Square Fund, made the donation in honor of Dorothy McNeil and her son Tim. Dorothy McNeil was a committed library user and supporter, who believed that libraries provided a gateway to another world. Tim McNeil was a gifted carpenter, who recognized the gifts he had been given and worked throughout his life to help others.
Plumb, Level and Square Fund Founder Robert McNeil and Director Deborah McNeil made the donation in recognition to the many enjoyable years the McNeil family spent living in Leavenworth and Cashmere.
"It was a surprise to us," said Dan Howard, director of Public Services, North Central Regional Library. "We received a letter in December from two people who work for the fund. It was very brief but said the McNeil family had lived in Cashmere and Leavenworth. For some years they loved the area. The fund was meant to honor Dorothy McNeil, who was a big library supporter."

The money would only be spent if the city staff is successful in obtaining a grant from the Recreations and Conservation Office. If successful the city would receive $163,876 from the state RCO. Part of the cities match can come from "in kind" funds like the applicants labor, materials or even private donations. City staff estimated the city could provide about 15 percent of the cost of the improvements through in kind services.

Bowl Description:
Spalted Black
Walnut Bowl
This black walnut bowl began its life as a small sapling planted in Walla Walla's Pioneer Park in 1906 by landscape architect John C. Olmstead, creator of Central Park in New York. Olmstead planted many of the large old trees currently giving Walla Walla its grand character. For over a century it grew to be a very large tree over four feet in diameter before succumbing to disease. As a result of this disease some interesting spalting occurred creating the beautiful black lined patterns in the wood. The black walnut wood for this bowl was salvaged and donated by Jon and Keely Newsom McLain. Wednesday, February 01, 2012 More... | |

| | Bulldog grapplers head to Districts with high hopes | The Cashmere Bulldogs finished off a busy end to the regular season with four dual matches last week, against Chelan, Tonasket, Omak and Okanogan. The Chelan and Tonasket matches were supposed to have taken place the prior week, but were cancelled due to weather.
The Bulldogs came up short against league champion Chelan, one of the best 1A teams in the state. Giving up three matches due to forfeits did not help matters, as Cashmere lost 48-30 last Wednesday at home.
"All in all, think we wrestled them really well," said Aaron Bessonette, Cashmere head coach. "Once again, we have big victories by Brock Steele and James Stollhammer. We usually can count on a win from senior Clyde Sims, but we was going up against defending state champion Cole Schwartz."

And they have never been undefeated this far into the season. And they have obviously have never won a state title either.
But this edition of the Bulldogs is playing like no other previous edition, and a state title is certainly within the realm of possibilities for this impressive squad.
