An Unashamed Hope

Tim Lamb

An article by noted author / publisher / producer Brad Cummings, in the monthly magazine Personal Update, produced by Koinonia House was just the inspiration I needed in this pre-election season.  He reminded me that WE don't have to win because Jesus already has!  It is not up to US to make a better tomorrow because God Almighty has been in preparation for tomorrow since before the first yesterday.

I was reminded by another article that God uses us to put in power whom He will, so our vote counts even if we lose the election we make a statement.  But Mr. Cummings appeals to all of us who have decided the American dream is dead to stay the course.  Though he sympathizes with our sense of doom he begs us remember that:

"You only have to look to the Cross of Jesus Christ to know that He does some of His greatest work when it is darkest and it looks like all is lost."

He says it is a reality that " sowing to the wind for several generations, we are in danger of reaping the whirlwind", but counters with the truth "After all, He is the God of the impossible, our Glorious Redeemer, the Grace-filled Reversal of Fortunes.  He is still the only One who can create everything out of absolutely nothing-and that gives me reason for hope!"

The days of darkness known as "The Last Days" or "The End of Days" may be upon us , but Cummings will not let us forget that "where sin abounds, grace much more abounds."  There may yet come a season of renewal and life as God pours out His spirit on the last of His hopeful - us, if we remain hopeful!

We could "win" the election and still lose as the masses become more and more unsatisfied.  As a possibly insurmountable national debt looms and a generation with dreams of entitlements is forced to sacrifice and work serious issues stand before us. Cummings reminds us again, "...Grace, the empowering presence of God to heal and bring change, is never more present than when and where it is needed most.  And if ever there was a time we needed it, it is now!"

"Is God through with America?  Not even close! - There is an appointed season of escalation and a divine acceleration that will bring forth a harvest such as the World has never seen - and it would appear that those conditions emerge in the midst of when it is darkest. - Know this: Evil does not win!  It simply doesn't."  Brad Cummings

He also makes this connection in an astounding way.  Using the story of the Prodigal son we can see America as the Prodigal, running off and utterly squandering all our blessed inheritance.   However, in the story, the other son who stays home has issues of his own.  So what the story really is about; what Jesus sought to reveal to us might actually be the story of the most amazing Father you could ever have.  America deserves chastisement and may already be under judgment but should we wake up and come to our senses and leave the mess behind and return to the Amazing Father "I have every confidence that it will be met with the overwhelming, restoring love of this most Amazing Father.  A Father few of us have dared to fully encounter"

This may be a timely message regardless of how the election turns out.  Should we be successful in the "Moral Issues" and elect the candidates with the most hope let this serve as a reminder that these are still dark times and if we come through this it will be by God's Grace and not because of the man we chose to lead us.  Flesh and blood cannot win this battle.

However, if all our votes have seemingly been for naught, rejoice, for we are now in a time for God's great victory to be won.  The dream of our Forefathers is not over.  This nation will again serve as an example of God's power, either in judgment or in redemptive grace, the choice is ours.

There is work to do but we can approach that work with great joy, ultimate hope, and magnificent pleasure.  God is on the throne and the victory is won, and grace...ahhh grace, is as sweet as the first day and more powerful than the greatest challenge of man.  God is not through with us yet!
