|Carol Ann Droege|
Carol Ann Droege passed on to her heavenly home peacefully on Nov. 2,
2012, in Leavenworth, Washington. A memorial service will be held at
1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Faith Lutheran Church in Leavenworth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grunewald Guild, Mountain
Meadows, or Faith Lutheran Church.
Carol was born September 20, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to Paul and
Gertrude Droege. She graduated from Grosse Pointe High School in Grosse
Pointe, Michigan in 1942 and from Valparaiso University in 1946. She went
on to attend the Pittsburg School for the Deaf in Pennsylvania and the
John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles, California to learn teaching pre-school
children language and speech.
In 1954 she returned to Michigan to work
with hearing-loss children in the public schools, and eventually became a
kindergarten teacher in the Grosse Pointe school system. After retirement
she went back to school and received her Masters Degree in Fine Arts from
Wayne State University in Michigan. Her primary talents were in weaving,
spinning, and basket making.
Carol fell in love with the Northwest in the early 70s through Holden
Village, and in 1980 was part of the beginning of the Grunewald Guild in
Plain, which became her second home. In 2000 she moved to Plain and gave
her energies, creativity and generosity to the Grunewald Guild, Faith
Lutheran Church and its ministries and to her weaving and the arts.
Carol's creativeness was reflected in many ways, and her beautifully
produced pieces are treasured by family and many friends.
During her lifetime, one of Carol's greatest joys was to travel. She had
the opportunity to spend time in many countries in Europe and Asia and was
always ready to sign up for the next trip available. She loved music, and
choral singing filled her adult life. Carol always enjoyed joining her
friends on backpacking and ski trips.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Frederick and David
Droege. Survivors include her sister Kathy and many nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed.
Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth is in charge of the arrangements.
