Mona (Parkinson) Kays
Mona (Parkinson) Kays
Mona (Parkinson) Kays, 73, of Cashmere passed away Friday, Nov. 22, from a year-long battle with cancer. Born Dec. 23, 1940 in Kenmare, N.D., she was preceded in death by her parents Murt and Florence Parkinson of Marysville, Wash. and her husband Melvin Kays of Scottsdale, Ariz. Mona is survived by her older brother Dale (Del) Parkinson of Marysville, older sister Karen Luna of Leavenworth, younger sister JoAnn Anderson (David) of Leavenworth, eight nieces and nephews and their children. Mona's younger years were spent with her family and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Kenmare, N.D. In 1952, the family moved to Marysville, Wash. After graduation, she moved to Seattle, Wash. to work as a legal secretary. She married Melvin Kays and they made their home in Seattle, Maple Valley, winters in Sun Valley, then Scottsdale Ariz. before she came to Cashmere, Wash. to live closer to her sisters and their families. Mona and her husband enjoyed sailing, their horse ranch in Maple Valley and racing horses at Long Acres. Mona's horses and dogs were her passion. She loved the many years of skiing in Sun Valley, being with family, flower gardening and especially all aspects of Christmas. Mona approached life with great zeal. She entertained us with her quick humor. She was truly unique! There will be a Celebration of Mona's Life Saturday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. for family, church family and friends at the home of Duane and Corky Broaddus 8189 East Leavenworth Road, Leavenworth, WA.
