Link meetings on proposed schedule changes
Link Transit has scheduled public meetings to answer questions and take comments on the proposed service changes. These are informal drop-in sessions to give interested people the opportunity to talk with Link staff about the proposals and discuss alternatives. A meeting is planned from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Jan. 23 and noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 at Martin's Market Place. Another meeting is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Cashmere City Hall. Call 662-1155. (er03,04)
Fritz Benefit Auction
A benefit auction is planned for the Fritz family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27 at Cascade High School. Silent, live dessert auction and entertaintment to benefit the Fritz family who lost their home and belongings to a devastating fire on New Year's Eve. All proceeds go to Richard and Crystal Fritz benefit account at Cashmere Valley Bank. Call 679-7128. (er03,04)
The E. Lorene Young Community Garden, in association with the Wenatchee River Institute, will be hosting a 2013 Gardening Workshop Series in the Barn at the Wenatchee River Institute. The first workshop "Garden Planning with Eron Drew" will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21. All skill levels are welcome. Classes are free for ELYCG members or with a $5 donation for non-members. All proceeds benefit ELYCG. "Fall 2012 Wenatchee Area Fires - Before and After"
The Chumstick Wildfire Stewardship Coalition will hold a general meeting featuring a presentation, "Fall 2012 Wenatchee Area Fires - Before and After," by Michelle Ellis of the USFS on Thursday, Jan. 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Barn Beach Reserve, located at 347 Division Street in Leavenworth. Museum closed for remodeling
The Upper Valley Museum in Leavenworth will be closed January and February for remodeling. Plans are to reopen the museum on March 1. There will be an event to commemorate the reopening. (er03,04)
Leavenworth Winter Sports Club will host the annual Bavarian Ice Festival Snowshoe Demo at Leavenworth Ski Hill on Sunday, Jan. 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Atlas and MSR snowshoes will be available for demo with fitting by Leavenworth Mountain Sports. A special snowshoe trail at the Ski Hill is setup just for participants. A bonfire will provide a warm welcome at the base. Empty Bowls Art Grants
Empty Bowls Art Grant applications are now being accepted. Closing date for applications is March 12. Teachers and community members who work creatively with local children and youth are encouraged to apply. See the Upper Valley M.E.N.D. website (uvmend.org) for details and application form. Empty Bowls Festival
Glazing days will be held Jan. 25-30 for the 2013 Leavenworth Empty Bowls Festival in the Woodpecker Room at Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. All are welcome. Glazing days begin Friday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday-Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Family days and times, for those with children 13 and under, are Saturday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Jan 27 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include a bowl to paint and a reservation to the soup supper in March. Levy information meeting
There will be an informational meeting regarding the Feb. 13 Cascade School District Maintenance and Operations Levy election. Book Discussion Group
A new book discussion group is meeting in Leavenworth. Our first book will be "The Female Brain" by Dr. Brizendine. The group will meet on a Monday or Tuesday at a mutually agreed upon time and place. Future selections will depend on the group's mutual interest. Grief Place - NCW Loss Support has provided a Survivors of Suicide Loss Group in the community for several years. Free Leadership Workshop
Electric Toasters Toastmasters invites the community to a free leadership workshop on the topic, "Service and Leadership," on Jan. 29, 7 a.m. - 8 a.m., at Chelan PUD Auditorium 327 N Wenatchee Ave., Wenatchee.
Guests can experience the flavor of a typical Toastmasters meeting while also gaining practical leadership ideas that they can immediately implement in their lives and work. Electric Toasters, a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public-speaking and leadership skills in a supportive environment, regularly meets on Tuesdays at 7 a.m. at the same location. Compassionate Friends to meet
Compassionate Friends will be hosting their monthly share meeting Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. Located at Grace Lutheran Church at 1408 Washington St. Compassionate friends is a nonprofit organization which offers support to families that have experienced the death of a child.
