Local museums host summer activities

Two local museums are planning both family and adult activities.

On July 29, the Cashmere Museum is hosting the Super Cool Science Show from the Seattle Science Center for kids. The event is free for kids 5 to 12 years old and the Seattle Science van is to arrive at the Cashmere Museum at 10:30 a.m.

The show will include demonstrations where gases become liquids and liquids become solids. The event is sponsored by the Cashmere Royalty, Vale Parents' group, Christ Center, American Legion and Wacoka Kiwanis. The show will be followed by crafts and activities stations at the Pavillion Park until 3 p.m.

The activities include face painting, a cupcake walk, storytelling, rope making and pioneer crafts.

Additionally, the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center will have a couple of busy days on their hands following the Cashmere event, hosting evening events, including an open house and wine tasting and a sleep-over for families.

The Nutcracker Museum on Front Street will host an to debut their newest additions for their collection of the most nutcrackers in the world on July 30.

The following evening, the "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" film will be shown on the big screen as part of the Super Summer Sleepover, to be held at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center.

"It's a really fun event for families," said Museum Public Relations Director Chris Rader. "People like being at the museum after hours, especially late at night and we'll take them on a behind the scenes flashlight mystery tour through the sections of the museum that people don't normally get to see. So there's that feeling of being privileged and there are a lot of secrets of the museum. They'll get a glimpse of things down in basement in our collection and kids and parents really seem to enjoy that."

Other activities and crafts will be available, and a treasure hunt will be performed.
