'Friend of the Young Child': Thies earns Kiwanis award
Marion Thies, a retired school teacher of 31 years, has been named "Friend of the Young Child" for 2015 by the Wacoka Kiwanis Club of Cashmere. Thies will be presented with the award at a community social event that starts at 6 p.m. Monday, May 23, at the American Legion Hall, 401 Sunset Highway in Cashmere. The event includes hearty hors d'oeuvres.

Mission Creek Community Club: Barney's-style taco night benefits Cashmere Cares
The Mission Creek Community Club, a local service club, will host an "old fashioned taco feed" from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 20, with the Gary and Ginger Graves family, former owners of Barney's Tavern, doing the cooking. The proceeds go to benefit Cashmere Cares.
