Bulldogs soccer team wins CTL title, first seed in playoffs

The Bulldogs soccer team will head into the playoff season as the number one team in the Caribou Trail league after shutting out Chelan and Tonasket last week. This is Cashmere's fifth consecutive league title.

Cashmere Head Coach Dennis Tronson said the final week of the regular season was outstanding for the Bulldogs. Goalkeeper Zelia Zahir notched her ninth and 10th shutout of the season.

The girls traveled to Chelan on Oct. 23 to take on the Goat's at Sergeant field. Tronson said the night showed the control of they ball by the Bulldogs as they outshot the Goat's 28-1.

Scoring opened up in the 20th minute of the match as Tessa McCormick collected a Chelan clearance and drove the ball into the net for a 1-0 lead. Lauren Johnson notched in the second goal in the 30th minute from a McCormick pass.

Dani Morseman continued the scoring on another McCormick pass in the 31st minute. McCormick was on a roll as she struck again in the 33rd minute of the match for an unassisted goal, giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.

Tianna Helm, junior, closed out the first half with a penalty kick in the 39th minute.

Tronson said the second half continued with the scoring feast. In the 43rd minute freshman Kandace Brunner took a Morseman pass and kicked it into the back of the net for a 6-0 lead.

The girls continued to score with Helm knocking another one in during the 53rd minute on a fine unassisted move. McCormick, Brunner, and Lupita Tejeda knocked in the last three goals to make the ending score 11-0.

The Bulldogs finished off the regular season with a home match against the Tonasket Tigers. For the match the Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 22-1.

Morseman opened up the scoring in the 25th minute as she took a corner kick from Johnson and drove the ball into the back of the net from 8-yards out.

Tejeda made the second goal in the 32nd minute. The first half ended 2-0.

The scoring opened up in the second half in the 52nd minute of the match when Morseman knocked in another goal. In the 62nd minute Helm took a Johnson pass and drove the ball into the goal from 15-yards out.

Johnson was full of assists as she passed the ball to Jesica Bauer who pushed in the fifth goal of the game.

Helm closed out the scoring in the 75th minute with a long kick from 24-yards out for a final score of 6-0.

This win clinched the CTL title and put the girls as the number one seed to the Regional Tournament. The Bulldogs will play against the winner of a Brewster vs. Quincy game at home on Nov. 3 at 2 p.m.

Nine athletes from the Cashmere soccer team earned all-league honors. Goalkeeper Zahir and Dani Morrison earned honorable mention. Karly Thies, Helm and McCormick made first team. Tasha Kowatsch, Johnson, and Morseman made second team. Helm was named most valuable player of the league.
