The boys and girls cross country teams will be sending runners to the state tournament this weekend.

Last Friday the teams ran in the bi-district meet at Walla Walla Point State Park, Wenatchee against Caribou Trail League and the Northeast League. The boys and girls teams were the best from district 6 in the race.

"I felt the whole team, every runner ran hard," said Cashmere Head Coach, John Durheim.

It was a cold and rainy day but the girls stayed focused with two runners finishing in the top fifteen to qualify for state. Angela Knishka, senior, finished the three-mile race with a time 20:00 in 8th place.

Teammate Kea Paton finished less than 12 seconds later in 11th place. Paton will be joining Knishka in the state meet.

"Only two girls from our league made it to state, both Cashmere runners. The days of training our league lost due to the fires I'm sure played a role in that," Durheim said. "I am happy Angela and Kea qualified."

Senior Sydney Green came in 24th place with a time of 21:31. Ashton Weddle finished in 21:58 for 31st place.

Sophomore Jasmine Gonzalez finished in 23:01 and senior Molly Kenoyer finished in 24:32.

Overall the girls team finished in fourth place with 119 points behind Lakeside, Riverside, and Medical Lake.

Durheim said the weather conditions hurt everyone's time.

The boys will be sending a team of runners to the state meet this weekend after beating Quincy in the bi-district meet by three points for third place. The Bulldogs boys team scored 100 points losing to Lakeside and Medical Lake.

Junior Drew Van Polen was the first Bulldog runner to cross the finish line with a time of 16:58 for 8th place. Senior Dawson Taylor finished shortly after in 17:29 for 17th place.

"Drew ran his best race of the year," Durheim said.

Freshman Jonathan Mangas proved himself in his first bi-district meet coming in 20th place with a time of 17:37. Junior Oliver Fernandez came in 25th place finishing the race in 17:53.

Junior Ricardo Naranjo finished in 18:11 and junior Brock Steele finished in 18:16. Freshman Cole Paton finished in 18:29.

"I was very pleased with Brock's and Cole's efforts. They both placed ahead of Quincy's number 5 runner," Durheim said. "As a team I thought we ran a good race."

This Saturday the boys team, along with Knishka and Paton, will run in the State Championship meet at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. The first race starts at 12 p.m.
