Only 16 1A teams are left competing for the State Championship Title and one of those teams is number three ranked Cashmere after they crushed their opponent in the first round of playoffs.

From here on out the teams must win to stay in the tournament. The first round of post-season games started last Friday, Nov. 2. For three out of four games, Caribou Trail League teams won, guaranteeing them another game in the playoffs. Cascade and Quincy won last Friday.

The Bulldogs were the number one seed for District 6 so they played against District 7's number four seed, Lakeside.

Even though the game started with Lakeside receiving the kick-off, the Bulldogs showed their dominance early on when Mahliek Roberts intercepted the ball on the second play.

Devin Knight ran the ball 24 yards for a touchdown on a four-play drive on the Bulldogs first possession of the ball.

The boys defense played their best stopping the offense from getting a first down. Lakeside went three and out and punted the ball to the boys where they started on their own 18-yard line.

With less than eight minutes to go in the first quarter, the boys put together a five play drive and Roberts scored on a 5-yard run.

In one of their strongest drives of the game, Lakeside was able to make a nine play drive with their quarterback placing the ball right into his receivers hands. The Bulldogs were there to stop the receiver once they caught the ball. On the ninth play Lakeside fumbled the ball and Bulldog Dylan Tarver recovered it.

On the second play of Cashmere's drive, Mason Elliott ran the bal for 65 yards. On the next play Casey Ruether carried the ball 15 yards for another touchdown.

With a minute left to go in the first quarter the Bulldogs intercepted the ball again and in one play Roberts made a 4-yard run for a touchdown. The first quarter ended 28-0 with Dino Hamilton making all the extra points.

In the second quarter Lakeside opened up the scoring with a 32-yard field goal. The bulldogs countered with Ruether carrying the ball 39 yards for a touchdown.

Lakeside made their only touchdown of the game shortly after with a 33-yard pass from Kovac to Howard. Lakeside missed the kick making the score 35-9.

To end the first half Knight ran in a 4-yard touchdown.

"The offensive line played outstanding, Tarver, Rex Pittsinger, Bryan McNair, Cody Ream, and Jacob Allison," said Cashmere Head Coach, Phil Zukowski.

The first half ended 41-9.

In the third half Knight ran in two more touchdowns. Overall he carried the ball 17 times for 168 yards.

In the final quarter Elliott ran 39 yards for a touchdown and Ryan Sousley made a 1-yard run touchdown to end the game 66-9.

Ruether carried the ball 12 times for 128 yards, Elliott carried the ball seven times for 149 yards, and Roberts carried the ball seven times for 39 yards.

"Casey [Ruether] ran the offense extremely well and Devin Knight had a huge night at fullback," Zukowski said.

Lakeside proved they might be a tough competitor in the future but they were no competition for the Bulldogs tight defense and quick offense.

This Friday Cashmere will play their last home game of the season against Cle Elum at 7 p.m.
