Mason Elliott carries the ball as teammates Ian Wood (40) and Bryan McNair (58) block Cle Elum/Roslyn defenders. Elliott is the second string quarterback for the Bulldogs but he saw a lot of playing time last Friday in the first round of State after starting quarterback Casey Ruether dislocated his shoulder.

The Bulldogs football team had an outstanding season dominating league with a small number of players. They entered the State Tournament undefeated and ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press 1A football state poll. However they fell in the first round against the Cle Elum/Roslyn Warriors 48-6.

The boys headed into the first round without their starting running back, senior Mahliek Roberts. As Roberts stood on the sidelines cheering on his team, another starter, quarterback Casey Ruether, fell to the injured side after being sacked early in the game with a dislocated shoulder.

The Warriors dominated the game early in the first half. On their first possession of the ball, the opposing team put together a six-play drive for their first touchdown of the game. The extra point was good making the score 7-0.

With Ruether still in the game the Bulldogs fumbled on their first play and Cle Elum/Roslyn recovered the ball. On the first play, the Warriors ran the ball close to the goal line and on the second play another touchdown was made. With 6:28 to go in the first quarter the score was 14-0 Warriors.

Ruether returned the kick off to the Bulldogs 32-yard line but on the second play of the drive Cle Elum recovered another Bulldog fumble. Continuing their dominance, the Warriors scored on the third play of the drive. The first quarter ended 20-0.

The unstoppable Warrior offense scored again in just over a minute in the second quarter on a seven play drive.

Sophomore Mason Elliott went in for Ruether as quarterback after the injury. Elliott had practice over the summer as the Bulldogs quarterback while Ruether recovered from an injury.

The first half ended 34-0 after the Warriors had two more touchdowns in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Bulldogs defense was able to put more pressure on the Warriors than they did in the first half. Linebacker Rex Pittsinger led the Cashmere defense with 10 tackles. The Warriors scored two more touchdowns against the Bulldogs one touchdown to finish the game 48-6.

The yards gained for each team proved to be the difference in the score. Cashmere only went a total of 174 yards compared to Cle Elum/Roslyn's 405 yards. The Bulldogs also turned the ball over five times.

The Bulldogs finish the 2012 season 10-1. There are seven seniors this year, Cody Ream, Devin Knight, Dylan Tarver, Dino Hamilton, Mahliek Roberts, Ryan Sousley, and Marciel Hernandez.

The only Caribou Trail League team to continue to the quarterfinals is Quincy. Cascade lost to Royal 70-14.
