The last time the Cashmere girls basketball team (8-4, 10-8) played against rival Cascade (6-6, 12-6) the Bulldogs lost by 12 points. Five additional Cashmere players were eligible to play on Jan. 22, the second match up against Cascade of the season. The added players and home court advantage proved to be a big help for the Bulldogs after they shutdown the Kodiaks offense winning 65-39.

The first quarter ended with the Bulldogs ahead 18-2. The only points from the Kodiaks came from two free throws three minutes into the game. Cashmere was 9-for-15 in the first quarter from the field.

The Bulldogs passed the ball and played smart offense waiting for an open shot. As a team they were 16-for-29 at the half. They shot over 55 percent for the game.

"When you shoot that well you're probably going to win," said Cashmere Head Coach Chris Cloakey.

Senior Kaylee Caudill had a big game shooting 6-for-8 from the field for a total of 12 points. Caudill also had four assists and three steals. Six of the Bulldogs scored 7-12 points. Junior Lauren Johnson scored 11, and senior Angela Knishka scored 10. Mikayla Sites had five rebounds and four assists.

"When you jump out and get some steals and are able to shoot that well, you get going early and they [Cascade] didn't get going early," Cloakey said. "We were aggressive and played with a real team effort."

The Kodiaks started to score more in the second half of the game but they were unable to close the gap.

After a great game against Cascade, Cashmere headed to Okanogan on Jan. 26. The first quarter proved to be tough for the girls after they only scored one point against Okanogan's 10 points. Cloakey said the team was 0-for-9 from the field and 1-for-6 on the freethrow line after the first quarter.

The second and third quarters were a better match up for the Bulldogs but they were unable to close the gap. Okanogan scored 17 points to Cashmere's eight in the fourth quarter. Cashmere lost 50-30.

"There are some things you can't control. You can execute and get better shots but against an excellent team it's hard to do," Cloakey said. "Before Saturday [Jan. 26] we were 2-for-3 in Okanogan. We kept fighting and got within five [points] at one time but it wasn't enough."

Caudill scored 11, Sites scored seven, and Knishka scored six. Overall the team was 12-for-50 from the field.

Cashmere hosted Chelan on Jan. 29 but results were unavailable at press time. The girls play against Brewster (11-1, 16-1) on Thursday for the last league game of the season. Currently, Cashmere is sitting fourth in the league. Playoffs begin next week. The schedule will be determined by the Bulldogs performance against Brewster.
