Bulldogs aim for another league title in 2010
For the three-time defending league champion, each new season is not so much a matter of rebuilding but rather reloading. The Bulldogs return 10 starters, including reigning Caribou Trail League MVP, senior quarterback Tyler McNair.

"He may not be the best thrower, but he makes up for it because he is a very strong runner, and we're an option football team," said Head Coach Phil Zukowski. "Along with that, he has great leadership. He leads this team."

McNair would appear to have some capable back-ups as well. In his 27 years as head coach, Zukowski said he has never had three quarterbacks who could play. But this year, that is not the case.

Cashmere beats Royal 40-27 in season opener
Opening games show what your strengths and weaknesses are, and Friday night showed all of that for the Cashmere football team as they soundly defeated perennial state contender Royal 40-27. The Bulldogs used a solid ground game to control the tempo and clock, with an impressive pass defense that kept Royals offense off the field most of the first half.

"You 'Bellevue'd' me" was the comment from Wiley Allred, coach of the Royal Knights, referring to 3A state powerhouse team from Bellevue that rarely puts the ball in the air.

Cashmere soccer team aims for fifth straight league title
Last season finished with a disappointing 1-0 loss in the State quarterfinals to Connell. But it was far from a disappointing season for the Bulldogs, who finished 14-2 and won their fourth straight Caribou Trail League championship.

New volleyball coach optimistic about 2010 season
New Cashmere Volleyball Coach Wendy Crossland hopes keep building upon the success of the past two seasons under Megan Kosel. After finishing 0-14 in 2007, the Bulldogs improved to 3-11 in 2008 and 6-8 last year.

"Megan has done a great job of raising volleyball to a different level here," Crossland said. "The thing about Cashmere, most sports are strong. We have a strong athletic program. I think Megan raised it to be part of that program. I hope I can continue what she has put in place."

Bulldog cross country team should be strong
The Cashmere Cross Country Team may be a young squad this season, but don't count them out for collecting any post season hardware.

Last season, the boys won league and districts, while the girls took second in league and second in districts.

"We have seven seniors, four boys and three girls," said John Durheim, Cashmere head coach. "All the rest are underclassmen. Some are first-year runners. We are fairly young and inexperienced."

For the girls, sophomore Kea Paton is back to run her way into the Cashmere record books. The talented runner finished seventh in State last year. A solid number two is sophomore Angela Knishka, but she is still recovering from knee surgery. Syd Green is also out for around four weeks. Other key contributors are Aston Weddle and Molly Kenoyer.
