Cashmere Coffeehouse opens season with North Country

Submitted by Cindy Jackson

The Cashmere Community Coffeehouse (CCC) kicks off their 12th annual bluegrass season with North Country, Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. North Country is a new band with well respected, familiar faces from the PNW music scene. Their individual experience and musical accomplishments coalesce into one traditional, driving bluegrass sound that is sure to have your toes tapping and your hands clapping. So, be sure to mark your calendars and join us for a bluegrass season kickoff with North Country.

Nick Dumas, mandolin/vocals, was also a member of Three Generations and gospel bluegrass band, The Ancient Tones. Nick is one of the most popular musicians in the Northwest bluegrass scene and probably one of the best mandolin and fiddle players you will find on the west coast. Nick helped form Northern Departure, a high powered and very talented Northwest bluegrass band. His powerful mandolin chop and dynamics help establish the energy of the band.

Kent Powell, bass/vocals, is a true veteran to the Northwest bluegrass scene and brings his experience to North Country. He has been a member in some of the most popular and established Northwest bands, such as Crossfire and Runaway Train, in which he has been a member since 2005. Kent holds down the drive and groove of the band with his rock solid bass playing and can sing any part needed. His powerful voice and harmony singing add an incredible dynamic to the band.

Will McSeveney, banjo, is fast becoming one of the most prominent banjo players, in the Northwest bluegrass scene today. Will's powerful command of the instrument and awareness of timing and taste have made him a valuable asset in our future endeavors. Will plays banjo in pursuit of one purpose.... DRIVE! While well rooted in tradition, he can deliver a tastefully fresh spin on tradition.

Norm Olsen, guitar, is an excellent guitar player who gets great tone out of his lead breaks and plays with dynamic rhythm. Norm lays down fantastic lead solos that emulate some of flatpicking guitar's finest influences, while incorporating fast, well executed licks that will make you shake your head in wonder.

Stephen Burwell, fiddle, is known throughout the Northwest for his improvisation and execution of complexity in his music, delivered with rich tone and drive. Stephen was invited to perform on stage with Rhonda Vincent & The Rage and Kenny & Amanda Smith on more than one occasion. In 2011, Dale Adkins engineered a demo CD for Stephen that included his fellow band member, Nick Dumas, the illustrious Kenny Smith, and other musicians.

This music event is brought to you by the good folks of the Cashmere Community Coffeehouse, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide live, affordable, high quality entertainment to the Wenatchee Valley. A cover charge of $3 per person at the door will help to cover expenses. Refreshments are provided.
