'The Fantasticks' comes to Leavenworth
For the next two weekends, Icicle Creek Center for the Arts will be presenting "The Fantasticks," the longest running musical in world history. Icicle Creek's production of this wonderful romantic comedy still embraces such classic songs as "Try to Remember," "Soon It's Gonna Rain," and "They Were You," but director, S. Henry Hettick has set this version in the back alleys of a city where homeless denizens bring the story and the magic to life.

Combining this new concept with an all-star cast should make Icicle Creek's version a must-see show. Cast as the two young lovers are Cooper Hallstrom (Phoenix) and Alix Isom (LA) who you may have seen as the leads last summer in the PAC's "Batboy: the Musical." The signature role of the anti-hero, El Gallo, is being played by Wenatchee's own John Ryan. "These three actors bring amazing voices and serious acting chops to our show," said Hettick. "Whether you've seen this show before or not, their voices are enough to make you walk away singing the songs and delighted you came."

Broadway classic 'Guys and Dolls' coming to Cashmere
Guys and Dolls, the Broadway production that tells the story of Nathan Detroit, Nicely-Nicely and their compadres' gambling and romantic exploits comes to Cashmere Middle School for four performances over two weekends.

The musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1950, was chosen because the Drama club at Cashmere High School has a lot of seniors this year, and a lot of male seniors, co-lead actress McKenzie Hemstrom said. Guys and Dolls has a lot of male roles.

Hemstrom, who plays Sarah Brown, said the singing attracted her to the role.

"She's a higher soprano, she sings a lot higher than the other female leads and that's why I wanted to be her," said Hemstrom of her character. Hemstrom is a high soprano herself, so the songs are not too challenging.
