Cashmere FFA celebrates National FFA week, prepares for spring

Posted

CASHMERE – Cashmere FFA is gearing up for a packed spring season filled with leadership and skill competitions, hands-on agricultural projects, and its highly anticipated spring plant sale.

The chapter’s first competitive speaking event, the FFA Creed contest, will feature 10 freshmen competing on March 13 in Cashmere.

Participants include Melisa Avila, Miranda Castro, Oscar Green, Miranda Hernandez, Liam Hill, Kaili Landes, Maren Peterson, Zoey Rousey, Kaylee Smith, and Olivia Smith.

Sophie Hill will compete in Extemporaneous Speaking, with the ambitions of securing a spot in the State Finals.

Beyond public speaking, Cashmere FFA is actively preparing for upcoming competitions in Meats Evaluation, Milk Quality and Products, and Novice Parliamentary Procedure.

Interest in the Parliamentary Procedure event is especially strong, with over 20 freshmen committed to learning and competing in the category.

To celebrate National FFA Week, the chapter will host a “Farming Game” tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 19. The event aims to bring students together to engage in agricultural-themed strategy and teamwork.

“Please mark the following important dates on your calendar,” Cashmere FFA advisor Rusty Finch said. “Thank you for supporting Cashmere FFA.”

The popular Cashmere FFA Plant Sale is set to return this spring. The online sale will open on Sunday, April 27, at 6 p.m., while the in-person sale is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Throughout the winter, Cashmere FFA students have remained actively engaged in agricultural education. Highlights include the Horticulture class’s Valentine’s Day floral arrangements, created with guidance from Jenni Groce and Kim Holladay, and hands-on experiences in animal science, such as sausage-making lessons.

As Cashmere FFA continues to foster leadership, skill development, and agricultural education, the community is encouraged to support its activities and initiatives throughout the season.

National FFA Week is an annual celebration of the National FFA Organization, held during the week of George Washington’s birthday (February 22) to recognize the importance of agricultural education and FFA’s role in developing future leaders. In 2025, National FFA Week will take place from February 15-22.

During this week, FFA chapters across the country organize events to raise awareness about agriculture, promote leadership and service, and celebrate their members' achievements. Activities often include school and community outreach programs, appreciation breakfasts, service projects, agricultural trivia contests, and social events to engage students and the community.

The goal of National FFA Week is to highlight the contributions of FFA members and encourage others to get involved in agricultural education. It is a time for members, advisors, alumni, and supporters to showcase how FFA prepares students for careers in agriculture and leadership roles.
