Cashmere’s prospecting tradition returns with 26th annual Gold Show

Posted

CASHMERE — In Cashmere, gold isn’t just something you read about in history books. It’s still something people practice.

That tradition returns April 11–12, when the North Central Washington Prospectors host their 26th annual Gold Show at the Chelan County Fairgrounds. Vendors and hobbyists from across the region are expected to gather for a weekend that blends heritage, hands-on learning, and a shared interest in small-scale prospecting.

Behind the event is a club with roots stretching back to Dec. 3, 1977, when a small group of five members formed what was then known as the North Central Cascade Miners Association. Today, that group has grown to more than 450 members, reflecting a steady, sustained interest in prospecting across North Central Washington.

That growth becomes visible each spring in Cashmere, where the club brings together experienced prospectors, vendors, and newcomers for a show designed to be approachable at any level.

Exhibitors will offer equipment and supplies for panning, sluicing, and metal detecting, along with items such as gold and silver jewelry, sluice boxes, and locally crafted goods. Raffles and prize drawings will run throughout the weekend, while family-friendly activities are planned to ensure the event remains accessible to all ages.

The show will also feature a two-day Garrett metal detecting hunt, scheduled for 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, giving attendees a chance to test their skills in a hands-on setting.

Organizers say the event is as much about connection as it is about equipment. It offers a place to meet others who share an interest in prospecting, learn new techniques, and spend time around a tradition that continues to hold a place in the region.

Admission is $5 per person, per day, with children 12 and under admitted free. The first 50 paid admissions each day will receive a free sample of gold.

Show hours run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Food concessions will be available on site.
