Chelan County Fire District 6 expands community outreach with home visits

Posted

CASHMERE – Chelan County Fire District 6 will be visiting homes within its 45 square mile service area throughout June to connect with the communities it serves.

“We want our residents to be able to meet the volunteer-firefighters that respond to their 9-1-1 calls” said CCFD 6 Chief Andy Lee.

The firefighters will visit homes within the district service area, which includes Monitor, Peshastin, Dryden, Blewett Pass and the unincorporated areas adjacent to Cashmere city limits. Lee said the visits will primarily be Tuesday evenings, with occasional Saturdays if needed. The firefighters will leave informational materials at the door if residents are not home at the time of visit.

CCFD 6 comprises an all-volunteer firefighting force, serving a population of over 7,200 residents. The fire district averages over 650 emergency calls each year, which include motor vehicle accidents, structural fires, wildfires, and medical emergencies.

According to Lee, these visits are the first of its kind for the district, and are intended to provide residents the opportunity to meet their first responders, ask questions about wildfire preparedness, and assess any potential risks or limits to accessing their property in the event of an emergency.
