WENATCHEE — The Chelan County Public Utility District Board of Commissioners has extended the contract of General Manager Kirk Hudson through December 2029.
Hudson, a 28-year veteran of the utility, has led Chelan PUD since 2022. During his tenure, he has overseen several initiatives focused on financial stability, environmental stewardship and customer service.
Among the milestones highlighted by the district are the opening of a consolidated service center to improve operations, maintaining AA+ bond ratings that allow reinvestment into community priorities, and implementing habitat conservation plans credited with achieving the best Chinook salmon survival study results in two decades.
Hudson also guided Chelan PUD in hosting the region’s inaugural Clean Energy Expo and partnering with Helion to site the world’s first fusion power plant on district property. Other initiatives included adopting a large load framework to preserve low rates and reliable service, and completing the largest upgrades to PUD parks since their construction, including a new splash pad, apple-themed playground, and expanded trail features on the Apple Capital Loop Trail.
“Kirk is the right leader to guide Chelan PUD into the future,” Board President Steve McKenna said. “His focus on customers, delivering reliable service, and preparing for the needs of future generations aligns with our Imagine 2075 vision – now and into the future.”
Commissioner Garry Arsenault said Hudson has played a key role in shaping the district’s long-term outlook. “Kirk has helped us imagine what’s possible and begin the work to make it happen,” Arsenault said. “This is exactly the kind of leadership we need right now, ensuring the PUD is focused on the best interests of our customers and communities.”
