CHS honors “Bulldog in the Arts” winners for January

Posted

CASHMERE — Cashmere High School is shining a spotlight on student creativity this winter, recognizing four students as its January “Bulldog in the Arts” honorees across instrumental music, theatre arts, visual arts, and vocal music.

The monthly recognition celebrates students who demonstrate dedication, growth, and leadership within CHS arts programs — both on stage and behind the scenes.

In instrumental music, senior Allie Neff was recognized for her commitment and versatility. A clarinet and tenor saxophone player, Neff is a regular presence in CHS ensembles and a consistent participant in the regional solo and ensemble festival. She has also played in the orchestra for school musicals since eighth grade, building years of experience through steady practice and preparation. Teachers praised her enthusiasm and work ethic, calling her a reliable and hard-working musician who helps elevate the entire program.

The theatre arts honor went to Emmett Brown, a familiar face in Cashmere Drama who has continued to expand his creative range. Brown, known for his musical background, played in the orchestra for “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” last year before stepping into an onstage role as Windward, King Triton’s herald. This winter, he took on a new challenge with a supporting lead role as Sir Harry, the knight who helps rescue Princess Winnifred in “Once Upon a Mattress,” which just finished its run at the school. Instructors highlighted his preparation, responsiveness to feedback, and strong vocal performances during rehearsals.

For visual arts, the award was shared by Maya Cohen and Carly Boyd, whose parallel journeys through Art I made it impossible to recognize one without the other. Teachers described the pair as a dynamic duo who worked side by side, tackled ambitious projects, and consistently brought positive energy into the classroom. Both students put extra effort into their final paintings and were praised not only for their talent, but for their kindness and collaborative spirit.

In vocal music, Mackenzie Van Bogart was honored for her quiet dedication and dependability. Van Bogart was praised for showing up consistently, giving her best effort, and helping foster a welcoming, supportive environment for her classmates.

With the consistent level at which the Cashmere School District performs in sports and academia, it can sometimes be easy to overlook the arts as a source of pride and inspiration for teachers, parents, and students alike.

But together, the January honorees reflect the breadth of creativity thriving at Cashmere High School — and the students whose commitment keeps the arts a vibrant part of the Bulldog community.
