Posted

WENATCHEE - Wenatchee Valley College will host Sustainable NCW's Earth Day Fair on Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering the community a variety of free environmental education activities and entertainment.

The event will feature more than 50 vendors and local organizations, including Cascadia Conservation District, Chelan Douglas Land Trust, Master Gardeners, and NCW Audubon Society, among others.

The day will begin with an Earth Day 5K or 1K Fun Run at 9:30 a.m. on WVC's Wenatchee campus. Throughout the day, attendees can participate in a bike co-op to learn about bicycle maintenance, visit an e-cycling center for electronics disposal, and join a tree campus tour led by WVC Professor Jennifer Hadersberger.

A series of Eco-Talks is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., covering topics such as Helion fusion plans, innovative construction materials, and Eastside Rebuild. Each presentation will include a question-and-answer session.

Musical performances will be provided by the Wenatchee Valley Youth Symphony and groups from Wenatchee High School, Pinnacles Prep, and Eastmont High School.

Children's activities will include a TEAMS Learning Center, chalk art, and wildlife experiences. Food trucks will be present, with vendors using compostable serving ware as part of the event's Towards Zero Waste practices.

The fair will also feature a silent auction of sustainable items and experiences to benefit Sustainable NCW, plus displays of electric vehicles, a hydrogen vehicle, an all-electric tractor, and a Link Transit electric bus.

"I'm delighted that this year's Sustainable NCW Earth Day Fair will be held on our beautiful Wenatchee campus. Our community will have the opportunity to see the amazing work our college and local organizations do every day to create a more sustainable environment across North Central Washington," said WVC President Faimous Harrison. "Sustainable NCW's Earth Day Fair is a landmark event that brings our community together to celebrate the stewardship of our planet and Wenatchee Valley College is honored to welcome you onto our campus for the next chapter of this event!"

WVC will extend Earth Day celebrations with additional events on April 22 and 23, including poetry readings, nature hikes, and a clothing swap. The poetry reading on April 22 will feature WVC faculty Ana Maria Spagna and writers Jarret Ziemer and Susan Sampson, along with WVC Creative Writing students.

Parking will be free for the Earth Day Fair, though attendees are encouraged to use alternative transportation when possible. More information is available at www.sustainablencw.org/earth-day-fair.
